Professor Colin Gavaghan is director of the New Zealand Law Foundation Centre for Law and Policy in Emerging Technologies at the University of Otago. The Centre examines legal, ethical and policy issues around new technologies. He is the co-leader of a three-year project exploring the implications of artificial intelligence for New Zealand. He is a member of two government advisory bodies: the Advisory Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology and the Digital Council for Aotearoa New Zealand. He is the author of Defending the Genetic Supermarket (Routledge 2007) and co-author of A Citizen’s Guide to Artificial Intelligence (MIT Press, forthcoming 2020).
