Var Shankar is Director of Policy at the Responsible AI Institute. An attorney by background, Var helps organizations govern, use, and procure AI systems in alignment with best practices, authoritative frameworks and global AI laws. Var’s team at the Responsible AI Institute delivers the Institute’s assessments and roadmaps. Var is a Co-Instructor, along with Google’s Alexis Cook, of Kaggle’s AI Ethics course.
He is a member of the Brookings Forum for Cooperation on AI, the World Economic Forum’s AI Governance Alliance and the Certification Working Group.
A graduate of Harvard Law School, Var previously practiced law at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP.
