The three agencies Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws), the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) offer funding for basic research, applied research and its entrepreneurial implementation under the title ‘AI Mission Austria’ (AIM AT). The funding initiative was implemented for 2022 and 2023 with funds from the Fonds Zukunft Österreich (FZÖ) (FFG, 2024[16]).

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy is planning to establish an AI observatory.

Expansion of the successful OPEN AUSTRIA brand to Washington, D.C., as well as the start-up hub and life sciences hotspot Boston - OPEN AUSTRIA East Coast. Since 2016, the BMEIA and WK– have jointly run the San Francisco office and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. OPEN AUSTRIA San Francisco has become a pioneer of the BMEIA's tech diplomacy and a joint brand with the WK– as a gateway to the future.

Austria has established a “Digital Skills Initiative” (Digitale Kompetenzoffensive) as an intersectional cooperation between five federal ministries (BKA, BMKOES, BMAW, BMF and BMBWF). The initiative focuses on the development and coordination of measures for digital literacy and skills. Under the umbrella of the initiative, the Digital Competencies and Skills strategy outlines how Austria is going to achieve increased digital competencies among the citizens.

Preparatory work on how an AI Hub Austria could be designed for all relevant stakeholders from science, research and industry and what framework conditions and framework conditions and incentives should be created for bundling and structured cooperation should be created in order to enable a joint external presence and achieve increased added value for all those involved.
