AI for Thai is a platform developed by the Artificial Intelligence Research Group at Thailand's National Center for Electronics and Computer Technology (NECTEC). It provides APIs across three modules, Language, Vision, and Conversation, covering natural language processing, image and video analysis, and speech and chatbot services, all tailored to the Thai language and context. It targets system developers, SME entrepreneurs, and start-ups, with a limited free testing tier available.

Initiative overview

AI for Thai consolidates NECTEC's AI research outputs into an accessible API platform structured around three modules: Language (word segmentation, named entity recognition, machine translation, sentiment analysis), Vision (OCR, face recognition, object and activity recognition), and Conversation (speech-to-text, text-to-speech, chatbot). The platform's focus on "natural language processing of the Thai language, visual understanding in the context of Thainess, and Thai speech recognition and speech generation" addresses the specific challenge of adapting AI tools to a linguistic and cultural context underserved by international platforms.

Sectoral use cases described include retail chatbots, logistics driver fatigue detection, medical image analysis, and tourism translation tools. By offering APIs with a free testing tier and targeting SMEs and start-ups alongside larger developers, the platform aims to lower barriers to AI adoption and enable rapid application development across Thai industry and public services.
