The GovAI Interactive Learning Environment (ILE) is an AI-centred training platform designed to uplift the generative AI capability of the Australian Public Service (APS). To solve this, GovAI developed a secure, guided, and interactive platform that allows APS employees to experiment with leading AI models—including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google—within a controlled environment. The platform includes structured courses, ranging from introductory AI concepts to intermediate topics such as prompt engineering. A side panel provides “course content, instructions, tips, and audio guidance,” ensuring users can learn progressively and safely. Built on the opensource LibreChat framework, the system is flexible, customisable, and continually improving through community contributions.
The platform delivers significant benefits including enhancing APS staff skills, reduces reliance on external training providers, and fosters a culture of innovation. Safe use and alignment with government policy is embedded in the training modules, including a 'reflect' stage that ensures users critically analyse AI generated outputs and are mindful of what information they input. Authentication occurs through the secure GovTEAMS platform, and all conversations are logged for auditability.
