Catalogue of Tools & Metrics for Trustworthy AI

These tools and metrics are designed to help AI actors develop and use trustworthy AI systems and applications that respect human rights and are fair, transparent, explainable, robust, secure and safe.

GovAI Solutions Environment

GovAI offers hosting environments and model access services to help Australian Government technical teams experiment, develop and deploy generative AI applications in a secure, compliant environment.

GovAI Hosting is a low-cost prototyping environment for agency technical teams to rapidly develop and test AI solutions before production deployment. It offers access to development tools and infrastructure without requiring extensive procurement or security assessment.  Agencies are provided a full Microsoft Azure subscription or Amazon Web Services (AWS) account, pre-configured with security controls and access to AI services.

GovAI Hosting provides a secure, APS-aligned environment to:

  • Build prototypes and internal tools like chatbots, assistants, or drafting aids
  • Deploy and execute testing against generative AI models
  • Access shared assets and model comparisons across agencies
  • Ensure compliance with APS data security, privacy, and ethical standards
  • Support collaboration across agencies and enable technical teams to experiment safely while aligning with whole-of-government AI adoption goals.

The GovAI Model Brokerage service offers a secure API gateway that gives Australian Government agencies access to approved AI models. Instead of negotiating separate contracts with multiple AI providers, applications connect to a single government-managed endpoint that routes requests securely to models like GPT-4o and Claude. The Model Brokerage service handles authentication, security, compliance and routing to the right model.

The service is designed for technical teams integrating AI capabilities into existing agency systems; developers building applications that need access to large language models; and platform teams managing AI infrastructure for their agency.

The service is designed with APS agencies to meet public sector needs and aligns with government policies, ethical frameworks, and accountability standards, while enforcing strong security and privacy guardrails meeting the APS AI Ethics.

It also supports sovereign capability by hosting services on Australian infrastructure, prioritising local models (onshore large language models), and applying strict controls to ensure compliance with government security standards. Only approved traffic passes through the Brokerage, enforcing onshore routing, automatic audit logging, and privacy-preserving connections.
