Dan Salsburg

Dan Salsburg, the Chief Counsel for Development and Innovation in the US Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC’s) Bureau of Consumer Protection, coordinates the FTC’s efforts to protect consumers from abuses involving the use of artificial intelligence. Dan also leads the FTC’s efforts to promote the right to repair and its legal training programs for the FTC’s consumer protection attorneys. Previously, Dan led the FTC’s Office of Technology Research and Investigation which conducted studies concerning technology’s impact on consumers. Dan has researched the use of leaked user identifiers and payment data, the adoption of email authentication technologies by popular domains, manufacturers’ practices that inhibit product repairs, and the security offerings of web hosts that market their services to small businesses. In 2016, Dan conceived of and launched the first FTC PrivacyCon – an annual event that allows policymakers to learn about the latest privacy and data security research. Dan has also served as an Assistant Director and staff attorney at the FTC, supervising and litigating enforcement actions involving spam, internet fraud, and mobile technologies and as a Senior Trial Attorney in the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Division of Enforcement.
