Senior Technology Advisor - U.S. Federal Trade Commission
Dr. Jessica Colnago is a Senior Technology Advisor in the Office of Technology at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), with expertise in machine learning privacy, kids and teens privacy and, more broadly, usable privacy and people’s understanding and expectations of privacy. She has experience both in academic and industry environments, performing foundational research and practitioner focused work. With a deep expertise in user research, Jessica has conducted user research at Mozilla exploring people’s experience and expectations surrounding privacy and trust in voice assistants, and at Carnegie Mellon University exploring use and pitfalls of two factor authentication systems, passwords, and internet of things devices. Prior to joining the FTC, she was a senior privacy engineer at Google where she provided privacy engineering expertise to teams on the training and deployment of their machine learning models, conducted risk assessments, provided technical guidance on risk mitigation, and set guidelines on privacy respecting models. Dr. Colnago has a PhD in Computer Science with a focus on privacy from Carnegie Mellon University.
