Maria Rosario Heras Carrasco

Expert in personal data protection, currently responsible for the Data Governance component of the EU-LAC Digital Data Governance component of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance project, Maria Rosario (Charo) focuses her mission on the promotion of personal data protection regulations in the region as a factor for sustainable digital development. In addition, she provides knowledge and advice on issues related to digitization, such as AI, that have implications for the privacy of individuals.
Previously she worked at the Spanish Agency for the Protection of Personal Data of Spain, in different positions in the subdirectorate of personal data inspection, as an auditor and coordinator of high-impact sectors such as banking, education and healthcare. She was an active participant in the creation of the Technological Innovation Division, and she developed different initiatives for the implementation the European Regulation on the Protection of Personal Data, such as the elaboration of a certification scheme for personal data protection officers as well as guides and tools that have made it possible to develop personal data governance models for both public and private entities.
