Martin Marzidovsek is a researcher at the Jožef Stefan Institute and an advisor on AI and innovation policy at the Ministry of Digital Transformation of the Republic of Slovenia. His research primarily focuses on explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) and the application of machine learning (ML) in life sciences. He has collaborated on several international research projects with prominent institutions, including the University of Catania and the California Institute of Technology, exploring ML applications in marine biology, molecular and systems biology, ecology, and agriculture.

Martin serves as Slovenia’s deputy high-level representative on the EU AI Board, charged with the implementation of the EU AI Act and AI innovation policies. He also represents Slovenia in international forums such as the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) and the OECD, where he is a member of the OECD Expert Group on AI Futures. Martin led the establishment of Slovenia’s National Competency Centre for AI and co-founded a venture-capital-backed tech startup in Berlin.

Additionally, he served as a Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia (2022–2023), where he advocated for policies supporting green and digital transformation. Martin holds a PhD in Machine Learning from the Jožef Stefan Postgraduate School and a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the Geneva Graduate Institute.
