Senior Director of the Privacy and Data Protection Policy Directorate - Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada
Runa Angus leads the team responsible for the administration of Canada’s federal private-sector privacy framework, which sets out how private organizations must handle personal information in the course of their commercial activity. Runa works closely on the responsible design, development and deployment of AI as it relates to privacy in the private sector.
Runa joined the Canadian Federal Public Service in 2011and has worked on a number of high-profile digital policy files such as the review of the legislative framework for telecommunications and broadcasting, network neutrality, regulation of social media and the online media industry, and fake news.
Previously, Runa worked in the private sector for several years, including at a corporate law firm with international reach. She also completed an internship with the Superior Court of Quebec.
Runa holds civil law and common law degrees from McGill University and is a member of the Barreau du Québec. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
