Senior Technology Policy Advisor - Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC)
Vance Lockton is the Senior Technology Policy Advisor for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC). He has spent the majority of his career with Canada’s federal and provincial privacy regulators, and currently leads work on a range of technology-centric files including artificial intelligence, digital identity, and privacy-enhancing technologies. Over the past few years, his projects have included creating a data governance framework for a $500M+ smart city project and leading the drafting of domestic and international joint principles documents on topics such as facial recognition technology and generative AI with other data protection authorities. Vance holds Masters degrees in Computer Science (thesis topic: surveillance) and Public Policy (thesis topic: digital identity), as well as CIPP/C and CIPM certifications.
