Responsible innovation toolkit: Harms modeling framework

Responsible innovation toolkit: Harms modeling framework

Technology builders need to design AI that is trustworthy. This means having products which reflect the ethical principles which have been adopted globally in our society. In addition, developers and the technical community as a whole need to also consider the negative outcomes of their products.

The Harms Modeling is a framework for product teams, grounded in four core pillars of responsible innovation that examines how technology can negatively impact people's lives:

  • Injuries
  • Denial of consequential services
  • Infringement on human rights
  • Erosion of democratic & societal structures

Harms Modeling enables product teams to anticipate potential real-world impacts of technology, which is a cornerstone of responsible development.
