Anekanta® AI Governance Framework for Boards and Senior Leaders
Introduction
In an era where artificial intelligence promises transformative effects, the boardroom plays a pivotal role in steering its responsible adoption. By embedding AI policy into strategic decision-making, boards and senior management can ensure alignment with ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and organisational values.
Do you know whether AI is driving your board’s decisions?
Leadership at the board and senior management level fosters a culture of accountability, mitigates risks, and unlocks AI’s potential to deliver long-term value. Proactive governance is not just a safeguard, it is a competitive advantage in the age of intelligent systems.
This internationally recognised AI Governance framework provides boards and senior leaders with signposts to high level areas of accountability through twelve principles which could be at the heart of any AI governance policy. It is for boards who wish to start their AI journey, or for those who recognise that AI governance is a key enabler for AI success.
About Anekanta®'s framework
The twelve points contained in this RAI framework represent a selection of the high-level areas of consideration a board may include in its AI policy. Note that legal requirements must be met by organisations providing or deploying AI systems or their decisions within the European Union.
This RAI framework is not an exhaustive list of actions, instead it provides a start point. Full implementation of AI responsibility and accountability within an organisation requires the engagement of all twelve principles and the involvement of the entire organisation developing or using AI systems and its stakeholders e.g., supply chain and customers.
Anekanta®'s framework is aligned with the OECD principles for trustworthy AI, which has become embedded in one form or another in almost every trustworthy guide, standard and pending regulation.
The principles encourage due consideration to be given to the impact of every stage of the AI system lifecycle because development and use may have effects and unintended consequences beyond the defined purpose of the system.
Additionally, Anekanta®'s framework encourages the adoption of new standards e.g., ISO/IEC 42001 AI Management System which has been published and can be implemented now. This is a certifiable quality management system for AI risk management and continual monitoring, control and governance.
The framework is available under a Creative Commons licence for non-commercial use. Additionally it has been adopted by the Institute of Directors in their guidance to business leaders.
CPD Certified Training Programme
A full CPD certified training programme for boards and senior leaders has been created by Anekanta® which embeds the twelve AI governance principles alongside crucial AI literacy skills and insights into use cases which can be found here.
