Alessandro Mantelero
Professor of Law & Technology and EU Jean Monnet Chair in Mediterranean Digital Societies and Law - Polytechnic University of Turin
Alessandro Mantelero is Professor of Law & Technology at Polytechnic University of Turin, a member of the Support Pool of Experts of the EDPB, and a UNDP expert on human rights and AI. From 2016 to 2022, he served as scientific expert for the Council of Europe at the Convention 108 Consultative Committee and the Ad hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI) and was a member of the CAHAI. He advised the Brazilian Federal Senate on the future Brazilian regulation on AI and was a member of expert committees appointed by national governments to draft new data protection laws in Italy and the Dominican Republic.
He has also held visiting and research positions at a number of universities and research centres, including Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, Oxford Internet Institute, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Ada Lovelace Institute, Universidad de Murcia, the Center for Technology and Society at FGV Direito, and is affiliated with the EPLO – Institute for Privacy Law, Data Protection and Technology in Athens and the Center for AI and Digital Policy in Washington.
His latest book is Beyond Data. Human Rights, Ethical and Social Impact Assessment in AI (Springer-Asser, 2022).
