Anna Johnston is one of Australia’s most respected experts in privacy law and practice.

Anna is the founder and Principal of Salinger Privacy, specialising in privacy compliance and data ethics consulting, training and resources.  Since 2004, the team at Salinger Privacy have guided clients from tech start-ups to ASX100 businesses, and from government agencies conducting multi-agency data-sharing projects, to medical research institutes conducting complex data linkage programs.

Anna writes the influential Salinger Privacy blog and newsletter.  She writes about privacy law and practice for numerous publications, including the Law Society Journal.  Anna is also the author of Demystifying De-identification, and Algorithms, AI, and Automated Decisions – A guide for privacy professionals.

In 2022, Anna was honoured for her ‘exceptional leadership, knowledge and creativity in privacy’ with the International Association of Privacy Professionals’ Vanguard Award, one of five privacy professionals recognised globally whose pioneering work is helping to shape the future of privacy and data protection.

Anna is a former Deputy Privacy Commissioner of NSW.  She is also a Senior Fellow in Global Privacy at the Future of Privacy Forum in Washington DC, and a Westin Emeritus Fellow of the IAPP.
