
Diego Duichi

Dr Diego Duchi is Associate Director for Compute Policy at the Institute for AI Policy and Strategy, where he leads a team of researchers working across a broad range of compute policy and AI governance topics. He was previously Head of AI Policy at HM Treasury, where he led work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, economic strategy, and national security, and advised the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the fiscal, tax, and macroeconomic implications of advanced AI systems, including impacts on productivity, labour markets, and long‑term growth.
Diego’s advice contributed to multi‑billion‑pound public spending programmes on AI, including investments in compute, adoption, and assurance. He also helped establish government‑wide frameworks for AI risk management and preparedness, including work on frontier model capabilities and economic disruption, working closely with the UK AI Security Institute.
Diego spent over a decade in the UK government, working on issues including financial sector cyber security and crisis response frameworks. He was appointed Senior Adviser to the Indonesian G20 Presidency in 2022, where he contributed to reforms of the global health and financial architecture in response to the COVID‑19 pandemic. Diego holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government and a PhD in Molecular Biophysics also from the University of Oxford.
