Giuditta De Prato is team leader at the European Commission (EC) Joint Research Centre (JRC), in the Digital Economy & Artificial Intelligence Unit, providing quantitative evidence to support policy making addressing the impacts of digital transformation on economy and society. The project she leads provides since a decade comparable data on ICT R&D based on official statistics, and developed the techno-economic segments (TESs) analytical approach to target technological ecosystems dynamics. Applied to AI, this provides with quantitative insights on the worldwide AI landscape the EC AI Watch, the European Observatory for Artificial Intelligence to monitor the development, uptake and impact of AI, for which her Unit is responsible. Before joining the EC, she worked 15 years in the IT industry as software developer and analyst, and about 10 in the Academia. She holds a PhD in Economics and Institutions and a Master in Development, Innovation and Change (University of Bologna, Italy), besides a professional IT qualification. Since 11 years she serves in the European Commission.
