European Standardization Initiatives Director - IEEE
Irene works at the IEEE Europe Office in Vienna on governance and standardization aspects of the green and digital transformation, metaverse, and AI ethics. She identifies opportunities and engages the IEEE Europe Office into Horizon Europe projects.
Irene was member of the Law Committee of the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems from 2016 to 2019. She conceptualized and led at WIPO, a specialized UN agency, the flagship publication Technology Trends on Artificial Intelligence. An original taxonomy was developed in this publication, including AI techniques, AI functional applications and AI application fields, and research carried out on patent and scientific literature related to AI.
Irene is a certified IEEE AI Ethics Lead Assessor, and has a certificate in AI Business Transformation from Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management and one on Life Cycle Assessment:Quantifying Environmental impacts from MIT.
