
Paolo Giudici

Paolo Giudici is a Data Scientist specialized in machine learning and risk management. He earned a Bachelor degree in Economics from Bocconi University (1989), a Master degree in Statistics from the University of Minnesota (1990), and a Phd in Statistics from the University of Trento (1994). He is Full Professor of Statistics at the University of Pavia, where he directs the data science Laboratory. His research work focuses on developing mathematical models that measure the opportunities and risks associated with algorithmic intelligence and financial technologies, aiming to enhance their quality and safety.
He has been a visiting researcher at several institutions, including the University of Bristol, the University of Cambridge, the Fields Institute in Toronto, the European University Institute. He has served as expert for institutions such as the European Commission, the Bank for International Settlements, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Insurance and Occupational Pension Authority, the Bank of Italy, the Italian Ministry of Development, the Italian Banking Association. He served on the board of Credito Valtellinese bank from 2010 to 2018.
He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and 3 books, with an h-index of 59 (Google Scholar) and of 48 (Elsevier Scopus). He has supervised 25 PhD and post doc students and coordinated several research and industrial projects, among which the Horizon2020 European projects FIN-TECH and PERISCOPE. He is editor of the scientific journal Statistics (Taylor and Francis), and editorial board member of International Journal of Data Science and Analytics (Springer), Artificial Intelligence (Frontiers), Artificial Intelligence and Applications (Academia). He is an elected fellow of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and an active member of several academic associations, including the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), the Italian Statistical Society (SIS), and the Association for Applied Mathematics (AMASES). He is a honorary member of the Italian Financial Risk Management Association (AIFIRM).
