Until June 2024, Sarah Brown was the Counsellor for the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources based in Brussels, responsible for advancing the relationship between Australia and Europe on industry, science, research and technology matters. Sarah also represented Australia at a range of OECD Committees and Working Parties and in 2021 took part in the negotiations for UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.

Before that, Sarah was the Chief of Staff to Australia’s former Chief Scientist, Dr Alan Finkel. She supported Dr Finkel in advising the Australian Government on a wide range of innovation, energy, science, research, technology and education issues. Prior to this, she led international science policy in the department, with responsibility for the Global Innovation Strategy under the National Science and Innovation Agenda.
