The Independent International Scientific Panel on AI, established by UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/325 on 26 August 2025, is the first global scientific body on artificial intelligence. It brings together 40 experts to assess how AI is transforming society and to provide rigorous, independent scientific insight to inform international deliberations, as envisaged under the Global Digital Compact (A/RES/79/1).
Global Dialogue on AI Governance
The Global Dialogue on AI Governance, established by the United Nations General Assembly following the Global Digital Compact, is a platform for governments and stakeholders to convene on AI governance. Launched in September 2025, with its first session in July 2026, it aims to foster international cooperation, share best practices and enable open, inclusive discussions to ensure the benefits and governance of AI are shared globally.
UN Secretary-General's High-level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence (HLAB-AI)
HLAB-AI, established in October 2023, comprises 39 preeminent AI leaders from 33 countries across all regions and multiple sectors, serving in their personal capacity. In its final report, the Body presented seven recommendations for global cooperation on AI governance. The recommendations provided inspiration for Member States adopting the Global Digital Compact during the Summit of the Future in September 2024.
