Colombia promotes the development of solutions for problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other acute respiratory infections (ARIs) with a great impact on public health, through the selection and funding of AI projects that promote scientific and technological results in the diagnosis, treatment, mitigation and monitoring of the corresponding diseases.
Initiative overview
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection declared a national emergency in Resolution 285 of 2020 to face the present pandemic caused SARS-Cov-2 pandemic. In this context, the National Government established a national priority the funding of science, technology and innovation (STI) projects, especially AI projects, aimed to develop rapid diagnostic techniques, devices and/or tools to care for medical personnel and patients.The initiative has the following objectives:To support prototype technologies based on the incorporation of scientific and technological knowledge, to face the COVID-19 pandemic.To promote access to results in Science, Technology and Innovation in order to generate strategies and instruments that counteract the effects of the propagation of the COVID-19 virus and other viruses that have the potential to impact public health.To promote and strengthen the countrys scientific and technological capabilities through the articulation and formation of partnerships between Science, Technology and Innovation systems and international actors that promote interdisciplinarity contributions to main challenges faced by the pandemic of COVID-19.To increase the transfer and access to results, valuable data and scientific evidence amongst Colombian governmental entities.
