Initiative overview
AI Growth Zones (AIGZs) are part of the UK government’s broader strategy to expand national AI capabilities and attract private investment in AI infrastructure. They are designed to host large-scale computing infrastructure such as AI data centres and high-performance computing facilities. The programme aims to accelerate AI development by streamlining planning procedures, ensuring reliable energy supply, and enabling faster deployment of data centre infrastructure. By concentrating infrastructure and expertise in designated areas, AIGZs aim to strengthen the UK’s AI ecosystem, improve access to advanced computing resources, and support both research and industrial AI development. The initiative also seeks to attract global AI investment while ensuring regional economic development.
