This project aims to enhance the capacity of AI governance within Flemish public administrations through a comprehensive approach that includes organizational, policy, and human capacity building. Through the implementation of UNESCO's Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) as well as related measures, the Flemish public administrations are assisted in adapting their AI governance frameworks and in swiftly implementing current and upcoming digital legislation, particularly the AI Act.
Initiative overview
The project also focuses on strengthening the technical capacity required for AI projects, improving knowledge and expertise on AI-ready Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, including cybersecurity and data stewardship. Additionally, the project will elevate human capacity by enhancing AI awareness, literacy, and skills among public administration officials in Flanders. Through these efforts, the project aims to ensure that Flemish public administrations are well-equipped to navigate and leverage the rapidly evolving landscape of AI technology. The activities are designed to build the capacity needed to ensure AI solutions comply with the EU AI Act, UNESCO's Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, and other applicable digital legislation. Along with the deliverables, a key element will be close collaboration with all Flemish stakeholders and UNESCO's Ethics of AI Community and expert networks to ensure maximum impact and benefit for the Flemish public administrations.
