The OECD.AI Policy Navigator

VodostAI is a software platform that uses AI and data from IoT sensors to help predict floods and support early warnings. It helps water authorities, municipalities, and emergency services prepare and respond sooner, reducing damage and risk to people. It was developed to improve forecasting and decision-making where data are limited or arrive too late for effective action.

A satellite-based AI system was developed for the public water management authority JP “Vode Vojvodine” to detect waterlogging and map risk areas across Vojvodina, helping them make faster and more informed decisions. The platform combines satellite images, weather data and soil information to identify where excess water may cause damage. It was created to reduce agricultural losses and support better planning, prevention and response to extreme weather conditions.

The initiative is a flexible module for automatic text correction, designed to improve efficiency, quality, and reliability in writing and communication. While targeted at “JP Službeni Glasnik”, it potentially benefits institutions, professionals, and anyone working with Serbian-language content. Developed to address the need for accurate OCR and text analysis, it opens opportunities for integration with existing tools and broader language applications.

Posta Kopilot is an AI-powered mobile application that assists postal workers with manual mail sorting at the National Post of Serbia (Pošta Srbije), which processes over 2.1 million pieces daily. By interpreting address information and guiding sorting decisions in real time, it has increased sorting efficiency by over 20% and cut new-employee onboarding from several months to a few weeks. Developed through Serbia's Innovation Fund GovTech programme with LambdaWorks.

Project financing is implemented in a manner that ensures competitiveness, quality, practical value, transparency, and the functionality of the results. Programs of the Science Fund support the professional development of researchers, integration into the international scientific and technological projects, and cooperation with the scientific diaspora and industry. Additionally, the programs ensure the protection of property rights for research results, protection of intellectual property,

The initiative uses artificial intelligence to predict daily water inflows into reservoirs in the Drina River basin. It helps water managers and energy operators plan more effectively. It was developed to improve forecasting accuracy and support better decision making in water and energy management.

From 2021, students in the 7th and 8th grade of elementary schools have AI as part of two subjects in schools and an elective subject in high schools.

In accordance with the goals and measures of the Strategy for the Development of AI in the Republic of Serbia for the Period 2020-2025. In 2021, the Government of the Republic of Serbia provided the National Platform for AI (AI Platform), which is located in the State Data Center in Kragujevac.
