Initiative overview
Croatia’s Central Health Information System (CEZIH) is essential for managing health data and services. However, its current setup lacks the reliability and security needed for a modern healthcare system. The system is vulnerable to outages and data loss, and it doesn’t meet high availability standards. To address this, the Croatian government launched a project to upgrade CEZIH’s infrastructure, ensuring stable, secure, and round-the-clock operations.
The main goal is to move CEZIH into a state-managed cloud environment and build two data centres—primary and backup—that meet TIER 3 standards. This ensures high system availability and protection against failures. The project also includes disaster recovery planning, improved monitoring, and data backup to prevent service disruptions and data breaches.
Led by the Central State Office for the Development of Digital Society and supported by Croatia’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the project runs from 2021 to 2025. Once completed, it will offer a stronger foundation for digital health services, with better reliability, data protection, and room to grow as technology and healthcare demands evolve.
