Vlaamse Taskforce voor Geautomatiseerd Rijden

Initiative overview

The task force was created as a collaboration platform by the Flemish Departments of Economy, Science, and Innovation (EWI) and Mobility. It brings together research institutions, innovation actors, mobility stakeholders, and logistics operators to strengthen cooperation on automated and connected transport systems in Flanders.

Its main goals are to:

  • Foster an ecosystem for shared automated road mobility
  • Accelerate development and deployment of autonomous driving technologies
  • Connect key actors across research, policy, and industry to stimulate innovation

Although not yet a formal project, the task force has been proposed for funding under a cross-border Interreg initiative, which is currently under evaluation. If funded, it could become a major driver for cross-border testing, policy alignment, and large-scale deployment of autonomous and shared mobility solutions in the region.

Looking ahead, the task force is expected to expand partnerships, develop pilot projects, and strengthen the regulatory and innovation environment for autonomous mobility in Flanders and neighbouring regions.
