As part of the Flemish Action Plan AI, the Knowledge Centre Data & Society (Kenniscentrum Data & Maatschappij) was created to focus on the interplay between data, artificial intelligence and society.

The Knowledge Centre combines the expertise of three existing research Centres: imec-SMIT (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), imec-MICT (Ghent University) and the Centre for IT & IP Law (KU Leuven). The Flemish Department on Economy, Science and Innovation funds the initiative.The initiative has the following objectives:To enable Flemish companies, policymakers, regulators and citizens to achieve the greatest social and/or economic benefits of AI. To this end, it will bring together diverse stakeholder representative organisations and facilitate the creation of tools, advice, and recommendations.
