The National Data Centers Plan is a Chilean government initiative covering the period 2024–2030 that aims to position Chile as a regional hub for data centres by promoting investment, sustainability and decentralised digital infrastructure, while supporting technological development and research, including artificial intelligence.

Initiative overview

The National Data Centers Plan sets out a nationwide strategy to foster the sustainable growth of the data centre industry in Chile, with the objective of strengthening the data‑driven economy and consolidating the country as a leading digital infrastructure hub in Latin America. Led by public institutions and coordinated across multiple ministries and agencies, the Plan seeks to create favourable conditions for investment while ensuring that technological development is aligned with environmental protection, territorial balance and social well‑being.

The initiative includes measures to clarify regulatory processes, guide environmental assessment, and promote efficient use of energy and water resources, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy and decentralisation beyond the main metropolitan areas. It also supports skills development, public‑private collaboration and the creation of shared digital services for the state. Specific actions address the installation of AI campuses and the provision of advanced computing capacity for AI research and development in Chile, ensuring that the expansion of data centres contributes to research, innovation and long‑term national development within a sustainable and responsible framework.
