Initiative overview

ValboWal is Wallonia’s strategic innovation initiative for the wood/forestry value chain under the “Circular Materials” domain. It brings together forest owners, processors, builders, research bodies and clusters to make better, higher-value use of regional wood, with the intent to extend product lifetimes, re-use structural timber, and improve traceability and logistics. The aim is to boost the sector’s economic and environmental value while keeping more of the wood’s carbon stored for longer.

In practice, ValboWal coordinates collaborative R&D and pilot projects on circular design and industrialized timber construction, plus digitalization, including AI for quality control, design optimization and process efficiency.
