Beijing Normal University (BNU) has launched China's first undergraduate programme dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) education, aimed at addressing a critical shortage of specialised AI teachers in primary and secondary schools.

Initiative overview

Aligned with government directives, including a Ministry of Education directive issued in late 2024 and Beijing's municipal AI education plan for 2025–2027, the programme integrates AI technical skills (covering generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing, and educational data mining) with education science foundations, including learning theory, psychology, curriculum design, and assessment, alongside compulsory courses in AI ethics and data security.
