A government-led public AI compute capability (suite of AI-optimised supercomputers and gateways) to provide specialised compute to UK researchers, industry and SMEs for ambitious AI R&D.

Initiative overview

AIRR is a partnership between the UK Government (DSIT), UKRI and multiple universities/technology partners that operates high-performance, AI-optimised systems (e.g., Isambard-AI, Dawn). It provides open access routes for academic and industry projects (including SME applicants), calls for compute allocations, researcher support and training. The UK Compute Roadmap commits major investment to expand AIRR capacity substantially by 2030, supporting both applied research and frontier AI work.
