Initiative overview

Austria is exploring the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline public administration through the AI-Supported Administration Notification project. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of government services by automating key administrative processes.

The project's primary objectives are to assess the feasibility of implementing AI-driven solutions in public administration and to identify areas where automation can lead to significant improvements. By focusing on specific use cases, the project seeks to demonstrate the practical benefits of AI in reducing manual workloads and accelerating service delivery.

Three distinct use cases were analysed: handwriting recognition, translation, and knowledge management. Each use case was evaluated through the development of two Proof of Concepts and one Rapid Prototype, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of AI's capabilities in these areas.

The outcomes of this project are expected to inform future AI applications in public administration, guiding the development of scalable solutions that can be integrated across various government departments.
