—Nigeria is setting a global precedent with the establishment of the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Trust. This first-of-its-kind body will consist of 10 AI experts, the Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, and the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology. The Trust's mandate includes mobilizing resources, providing oversight, and guiding AI development in Nigeria. It will ensure strategic investment in AI across key economic sectors.
On 3 November 2023, United Nations Development Programme and Microsoft launched the AI4Dev Reference Group to help shape prospective AI opportunities in Nigeria. The collaboration is the latest in ongoing UNDP<>Microsoft Partnerships in Nigeria, which aim to support the acceleration of development in the country through digital transformation.
The National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) is one of NITDA's special purpose vehicles created to promote research and development on emerging technologies and their practical application in areas of Nigerian national interest.
