Initiative overview

The AP Digital 4.0 Programme is designed to address the digital skills gap within Portugal's public sector, aiming to:

  • Enhance Digital Literacy: Provide foundational training in digital tools and technologies to all public administration employees.
  • Specialised IT Training: Offer advanced courses for IT professionals and those in related roles to deepen their technical expertise.
  • Focus on Emerging Technologies: Educate employees on cutting-edge areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and natural language processing.

The programme is structured to eliminate information exclusion, improve the ability to use essential tools, and develop skills in emerging digital areas.

In 2022, the programme aimed to qualify and retrain approximately 9,800 public administration workers, with a goal to train 65,000 workers and managers by 2023.
