Approach Document for India: Part 2 - Operationalizing Principles for Responsible AI

Initiative overview

Drawn up across Parts 1 and 2, the strategy for Responsible AI consolidates several best practices to ensure that AI solutions are socially conscious and travel beyond the digital divide. The strategy builds upon the pervasive approach of AI for All, first discussed in the NSAI, to bring under its ambit, an accountable and utility-maximising approach to deploying AI solutions. The essence of AI for All includes within itself the maxims, Good AI for All, and AI for Good, which the strategy for Responsible AI sets to work on.In Part-1 of the Responsible AI paper released in February 2021, the various systems and societalconsiderations of AI systems have been studied and the principles for Responsible AI are outlined. Objectives:To identify broad areas for Government intervention and an institutional mechanism to support the implementation. To explore the institutional mechanisms for operationalizing the principles of responsible AI across private sector and research institutions.
