The Center of Excellence in Biobanking and Biomedical Research of the University of Cyprus contributes to the European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) which aims to implement the 1+MG initiative to advance genomic medicine across Europe. Biobank.cy operates as the first biobank approved by the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee housed within the University of Cyprus and it was built based on funding from the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus.

Biobank.cy holds samples from more than 1% of Cyprus population with a national bioethics approval and citizens’ consent ready to be used for research in the context of the 1+MG initiative. Finally, biobnak.cy will soon be part of the Genome of Europe (GoE) network.
