Initiative overview
Cyprus is working to improve how health data is shared and used within the country and across Europe by joining the European Health Data Space (EHDS). Health data, like medical records and test results, can help improve patient care and support medical research, but sharing it safely and securely has been a challenge.
To tackle this, Cyprus is setting up a National Health Data Access Body (HDAB) under the National eHealth Authority (NeHA). This body will manage access to health data, making sure it is shared responsibly between healthcare providers, researchers, and across borders. The goal is to enhance health services, speed up medical innovation, and improve health policy decisions.
The HDAB will work with hospitals, government agencies, and other partners to ensure privacy and consent rules are respected. It will also support cross-border healthcare, helping patients get care abroad with their data shared safely. Over time, Cyprus plans to expand this system, making health data more useful and accessible, while strengthening its role in Europe’s health data network.
