CMU-Africa's vision is to educate and empower the next generation of African leaders and innovators by delivering a world-class educational experience. Our mission is to produce creative and technically strong engineers, who have been trained in the African context and prepared to make a transformative impact in their communities and the world.

This initiative will focus on research, development and delivery of advanced technological solutions mainly in areas such as AI, security and protection of critical infrastructure and assets. The CoE will include an Academy that will employ advanced training and simulation systems to develop local engineering and technical talent and foster technology transfer.

Law No. 058/2021 of 13 October 2021 Relating to the Protection of Personal Data and Privacy was published, on 15 October 2021, in the Rwanda Official Gazette ('the Law'). In particular, the Law establishes among others, the following principles: lawfulness, fairness and transparency, purpose limitation and accuracy.

The process for designing the framework launched with a collective intelligence workshop in September 2020, in which a diverse set of stakeholders gathered to identify and prioritise key AI opportunities, risks, and socio-ethical implications in the country.
