Initiative overview

The World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2017 established the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network for Global Technology Governance (C4IR). Headquartered in San Francisco, the Centre has partnered with governments and private companies to establish hubs in China, India and Japan in order to scale and accelerate projects globally. It has also partnered with Affiliate Centres in Colombia, Israel, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa, which are managed and operated locally by governments and/or invited companies and academic institutions.The initiative has the following objectives:To develop policies and governance frameworks that will allow South Africa to use AI in a responsible way.
