In 2019, we unveiled our first National AI Strategy, outlining plans to deepen the use of AI to transform our economy. By 2023, our early investment in AI led to the establishment of about 150 teams working on research and development, and 900 startups exploring new ideas with AI.

National AI Strategy 1.0

Initiative overview

Today, the bottleneck to reaping the full benefits of AI is not in the readiness of the technology, but in our ability to redesign processes, systems, and regulation to deploy them. The NAIS signals a shift to emphasising the deployment of AI solutions, which would also anchor our efforts in R&D, regulatory review, and capability development. The initiative has the following objectives:By 2030, Singapore will be a leader in developing and deploying scalable, impactful AI solutions, in key sectors of high value and relevance to our citizens and businesses.1. Singapore will be a global hub for developing, test-bedding, deploying, and scaling AI solutions, including learning how to govern and manage the impact of AI.2. Government and businesses will use AI to generate economic gains and improve lives. AI will raise the Government's capability to deliver anticipatory and personalised services, and will also be a strong driver of growth in key sectors of Singapore's economy.3. Singaporeans will understand AI technologies and the benefits it can bring; our workforce will be equipped with the necessary competencies to participate in the AI economy.
