The objective of this Strategy is to generate an environment of trust regarding the development of an inclusive and sustainable Artificial Intelligence (AI), placing citizens at its heart. The National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, as stated by the Spanish prime minister S¡nchez, "seeks to place our country in the line of the leading countries in the research and use of a reliable Artificial Intelligence at the service of economic and social development, at the service of our development.

Initiative overview

Since 2018, the Spanish Government has been implementing actions focused on the digital transformation. Since then, some changes have been established in the Spanish Public Administrations;In 2019, the Spanish Research, Development and Innovation AI Strategy was approved.In 2020, a new Secretary of State for Digitalisation and AI was created. In addition, the Spanish Digital Agenda 2025 was approved, which seeks to advance towards the digital transformation of the country. This agenda foresees plans to develop AI, including the National Strategy on AI. As a result, the Spanish Artificial Intelligence Council was created, to assist in public policy design and implementation. By December 2020 the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy was announced by the Spanish Prime Minister.The initiative has the following objectives:The objectives of the agenda are as follows:- Scientific excellence and innovation in Artificial Intelligence- Projection of the Spanish language- Creation of qualified employment- Transformation of the productive fabric- Environment of trust in relation to Artificial Intelligence- Humanistic values in Artificial Intelligence- Inclusive and sustainable Artificial IntelligenceThe Strategy foresees six strategic focus areas:- Foster of scientific research, technological development and innovation in Artificial Intelligence.- Promotion of digital capacities, the development of national talent and the attraction of international talent. - Development of data platforms and technological infrastructures that support AI; - Integration of AI into the value chains to transform the economic fabric.- Support the use of AI in the Public Administration and in national strategic missions - establish an ethical and regulatory framework that guarantees the protection of individual and collective rights, with social welfare and sustainability as the main axes.

"PERIODIC REVIEW OF THE NATIONAL STRATEGY This Strategy is intended to be responsive and flexible, in keeping with the rapidly-evolving technology it must address. To achieve this aim, channels of communication will be opened through which individuals and collectives may make the contributions they see fit. The information compiled will be analysed by the Advisory Council for AI, and the conclusions drawn will provide points of reference for the next edition of the Strategy, in two years."
