IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre operates powerful computers to support research and innovation. It provides access to supercomputers and develops AI technologies to help solve complex problems in science and industry. This initiative aims to advance AI research and make high-performance computing tools available to researchers and businesses.
Initiative overview
IT4Innovation was launched in 2011 at VSB “ the Technical University of Ostrava and since 2019 it is part of the large research infrastructure e-INFRA CZ. Since its launch it has 5 supercomputers, at present, it runs three supercomputers: Czech most powerful supercomputer Karolina (15.7 PFlop/s, installed in the summer of 2021), Barbora (849 TFlop/s, installed in the autumn of 2019), and the specialised NVIDIA DGX-2 system for artificial intelligence computation, (130 TFlop/s and 2 PFlop/s in AI, installed in the spring of 2019). IT4Innovations successfully participates in the EuroHPC JU calls. HPC Karolina is co-funded by EuroHPC JU as well as new quantum computer LUMI-Q to be installed in 2025. Plans for future involve participation in LUMI-AI that will replace current supercomputer LUMI after its termination in 2027 and new AI-optimised HPC system (AI factory).
