Eilsa Tryggvedottir is the name of the Nordic collaboration on sensitive data funded by NeIC and partner nodes. Access to sensitive data, such as genomics and phenomics data, is critical for driving ground-breaking discoveries and advance human health. The project aims to build on the technology developed in the previous NeIC Tryggve projects to increase interoperability and strengthen Nordic cross-border e-infrastructure.

Initiative overview

Heilsa Tryggvedottir is a Nordic project, funded through the Nordic e-Infrastructure Collaboration (NeIC) with participation by partner nodes, which builds on prior work under the NeIC Tryggve and Tryggve2 projects. Its purpose is to enable secure cross-border sharing and analysis of sensitive human data—such as combined genomic and phenotypic (phenomics) datasets—in order to drive discovery, strengthen public health, and improve healthcare outcomes.

The project has several core objectives:

To transform the prototype or experimental tools developed in earlier Tryggve phases into production-ready, interoperable services.

To support federated data services across Nordic countries so that researchers with appropriate authorization can access or combine data hosted in different countries without moving sensitive raw data in insecure ways.

To incorporate key infrastructure pieces such as sensitive data archives, synthetic data generation, and imputation services, along with federated authentication/authorization (e.g. using ELIXIR AAI) to ensure data is managed responsibly.

Heilsa Tryggvedottir is carried out by ELIXIR node partners in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia, under the larger umbrella of NeIC. The project works closely with existing national sensitive data services and archives, and with European infrastructure efforts such as the Federated European Genome-phenome Archive (FEGA), combining legal, ethical, technical, and operational expertise.
