The OECD.AI Policy Navigator

Sweden’s AI strategy is a comprehensive national framework to make the country a global top-10 AI leader. It promotes responsible, secure, and trustworthy AI while strengthening innovation, research, and competitiveness. The strategy focuses on increased adoption across society, improved public services, and international cooperation, supported by an action plan and annual follow-up.

The purpose of this document is to identify an overall direction for AI-related work in Sweden and lay the foundation for future priorities.

AI is part of the cross-cutting themes throughout the entire strategy and are integrated across all five strategic areas - digital skills, private sector, public administration, public welfare, and connectivity.

The "AI-verkstaden" is a national initiative that provides public sector organisations with shared, secure environments and ready‑to‑use AI services to help them develop, test, and use AI solutions. It is designed to support government agencies, regions, and municipalities by offering technical tools, guidance, and trustworthy AI services. The initiative was developed to address common challenges such as limited AI competence and legal uncertainty.
