Initiative overview
Since its inception, the Office for IT and eGovernment has achieved fantastic results in developing electronic services, infrastructure, setting up legal frameworks for e-commerce and eGovernment. After one year, developed electronic services experienced a real boom. The next step was construction of the secondary Government Data Centre/Disaster Recovery Location in Kragujevac in 2020 - as a project of importance for the Republic of Serbia, with the aim of improving eBusiness systems using state-of-the-art ICT capacities in providing services to users, reducing the risk of loss of data, and support of the further development of digital transformation and artificial intelligence in Serbia. The national platform for the development of artificial intelligence was established in the state DC in Kragujevac in 2021. The platform is a last-generation, high-performance supercomputer manufactured by NVIDIA, ready to process a huge amount of information in a short period of time. The national platform is available to the state, local self-government, but also universities, science and technology parks and startup companies - based on the agreements signed with the ITE. Oracle opens its first regional center in Southeast Europe in the Data Center in Kragujevac on May 2022.In October 2022 The Office for IT and eGovernment established National Center for IT Competence with desire to enable students and graduated IT experts to get acquainted with the products of the world's leading IT companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, VMware, Huawei and Cisco as well as advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, G-cloud, bioinformatics and trusted services in electronic business. The Office for IT and eGovernment was recently (in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia No. 116/2022)) named as a special organisation which performs state administration tasks related to: development and implementation of standards and measures in the introduction of information and communication technologies in state administration bodies and Government services; establishment and maintenance of a register containing genetic, biomedical and other data of importance for research and development in the field of biotechnology, bioinformatics, bioeconomy, genetics and medicine, as well as other tasks specified by law. In order to improve communal order, the City of Belgrade introduced Hawkeye, AI-based system consisting of special cars taking pictures of parked vehicles, sms-based payment system, data center and control-operational center for monitoring and management.
