Initiative overview
Ireland’s Food Vision 2030 strategy positions research and innovation as key drivers of a more sustainable agri-food system, with funding from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). Within this framework, AI has become an important tool for addressing sectoral challenges ranging from productivity to food safety and public health.
Several recent projects highlight this trend: MUSHNOMICS applies AI to boost efficiency in mushroom production; SPECTROFOOD uses hyperspectral imaging for food quality control; RIBMINS explores AI-assisted methods in slaughterhouse inspections; APP4FARM develops smart farming solutions; AMBROSIA examines AI-supported nutrition for older adults; and food system mapping projects apply AI to track supply chains. Together, these initiatives are examples of how how AI research is being embedded across Ireland’s agri-food priorities under Food Vision 2030.
