Initiative overview
The Research Centres for Research Training (CRT) were established to provide high-quality postgraduate training in emerging technology fields, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science, and digitally enhanced reality. The centres offer structured programmes that equip PhD students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for research and innovation.
Key objectives include:
- Training postgraduate students in cutting-edge AI and data science methods
- Supporting the development of AI solutions in multiple sectors, such as:
- Smart buildings, mobility, and transportation
- Autonomous vehicles and manufacturing
- Cybersecurity and climate change
- Agriculture and natural resources
- Strengthening Ireland’s research capacity and innovation ecosystem
For example, the CRT for AI has trained 78 PhD students so far, with a focus on developing AI solutions that address real-world challenges. The programme encourages collaboration between academia and industry, ensuring that research is applied and transferable to practical applications.
