Under the Road Traffic (Autonomous Motor Vehicles) Rules 2017, in granting an authorisation for trials or use of autonomous vehicles, the Land Transport Authority may impose conditions as it thinks fit, including requiring a qualified safety driver to be seated in an autonomous motor vehicle to monitor the operation of the vehicle and to take over operation of the vehicle if necessary.The initiative has the following objectives:To regulate the use of autonomous vehicles in Singapore.
